Economic theory as a basis of the state’s economic strategy

The article deals with the problems of the use of economic theory to develop national economic strategy. Efficiency of such its use is related to synthetic application of the achievements of different economic streams and schools and due regard to national specificity. With such a methodological approach, formation of economic strategy makes provision not only for the guidelines of encouraging the real sector and priority character of its certain sectors, but also for the model of social development.

Social cohesion of the society as a doctrine: main foundations, reasons of actualization and development components

During recent decades, there have appeared a number of concepts, doctrines and initiatives aimed at responding the challenges, which the socium is facing at the verge of the millennium and promoting increased well-being and high living standards of the world community. Among them is the doctrine of “social cohesion”, whose genesis, contents and guidelines of practical use is the subject of the given article.

Theoretico-methodological approaches to the modern problems of labor compensation

The article considers theoretico-methodological foundations of research on labor compensation in the context of economic relations between capital and hired labor.  The author justifies the necessity of systemic analysis of labor compensation as unity and interaction of the phases of national reproduction. Special attention is given to the interrelation between the value and measure of labor and the measure of money (material) compensation for it.

The state and the regions: why no consent? (the institutional aspect)

The author considers institutional restrictions to optimal distribution of authorities between central and regional governments and shows theoretical possibility to reach Pareto-optimal distribution of authorities. He analyzes the reasons hindering the incentives to efficient distribution of authorities and investigates the formal and spontaneous patterns of the distribution of authorities between center and regions. The article defines institutional limits to efficient regional policy.

The theory of optimal currency areas in the context of global macro-financial change

The author proposes a method to adapt the theory of optimal currency areas to the modern tendencies of the fluctuations of global liquidity. He proves that symmetry of financial systems and common approaches to the provision of macroeconomic stability and macroeconomic reactions to financial cycle is an important criterion of optimality of a modern currency area. The article argues for the revaluation of the stabilizing role of exchange rate under the shocks of global demand.

Experimental check of behavioral hypotheses (experiment “Public weal")

The author considers the use of laboratory experiments in economic research. Main attention is given to experimental check of behavioral hypotheses serving as a basis in research of human cooperation. The article provides the results of a set of experiments called "Public weal" conducted in Ukraine to investigate national peculiarities of free rider behavior. The author has done a comparative analysis of the obtained results with the conclusions of foreign experimental investigations.
